On July 2nd and 3rd, SBC Theatre, the UK’s first Theatre Company of Sanctuary, will transform Endcliffe Park in Sheffield into a fantastical interactive adventure: Secret Summer. Using geolocated sound app Echoes, families will be guided around the park by binaural narration, encountering real-life surprises along the way. Squirrels dance, elves picnic and dogs will answer riddles in an original story created by Syrian writer, Anan Tello.
Secret Summer will build on the success of Hidden Winter - SBC’s 2020 lockdown project made with The Herd - an audio walk adventure for family audiences to enjoy in their local park. The adventure has been played over 2,500 times across the world and described by Creative Tourist as ‘Pitched perfectly for little ones, Hidden Winter is an engaging and fun adventure that encourages listening and learning from each other.’
This digital participation project is made possible thanks to funding from The Space, Theatre in the Mill and Arts Council England.
Fiona Morris, CEO and Creative Director of The Space said:
“In the creation of the ambitious audio adventure, Stand and Be Counted are combining traditional storytelling with interactive technology to create a brilliant new app-based experience that can be enjoyed by a wide range of families. We’re delighted to be working with this innovative, young company on a digital project that encourages empathy and asks audiences to walk in the shoes of others.”
