JOHN TOMLINSON
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
I am a founding member and Executive Director of SBC. I manage the strategic relationships with partners and stakeholders. I believe that the arts have the power to make real social change.
Previous to my full time role with SBC, for four years I was the Producer at Sheffield Theatres, one of the UK’s most prominent producing theatres and largest complex outside of London. I led all in-house productions between March 2019 - May 2023 and worked on shows including the multi award winning Life of Pi, Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Standing at the Sky's Edge and Rock/Paper/Scissors.
I also led large-scale community projects including Little Amal's visit to Sheffield, Together in the Square, Together Festival and the formation of The Bank cohort - a talent development hub and programme for independent artists.
In my role as Producer at York Theatre Royal I led their Visionari programme - a community programming project connected to organisations across Europe as part of BeSpectactive. In 2023 I was selected to be part of the Stage One UK/US Producer Exchange to develop my international networks in New York.
I was also proudly the Programme Manager at Contact, Manchester - an organisation who supported me in my journey as a Programmer and Producer. I have a First Class Media and Performance BA (Hons) from the University of Salford and am currently a Trustee for City of Sanctuary, Sheffield.
